Bringing Communities Together.

Your Independent Candidate.

About Cheryl Miller

Hi, I'm Cheryl Miller, and I am excited to be a candidate in the upcoming Council elections for Colac Otway Shire. Drawing on my experiences as a dedicated community member, a loving mother, I am committed to building strong relationships within the community to achieve progress together, advocating for important changes that affect our area.

Since settling into Colac, l have formed the Colac Coffee Club. My mission was to make new friends and networks with local women and men. I enjoy organising our weekly "catch-ups" that are either on the edge of the tranquil Lake Colac or at one of the many cafes dotted throughout our town.

Currently, l am completing the Women Leading Locally Fellowship program run by the Institute of Community Directors Australia (ICDA). I am undertaking this programs so that l can learn the skills I will need to be an effective councilor in local government.
I have many goals for our community but one of them that l am most passionate about is building meaningful post school pathways for disabled school leavers so that they can develop the skills that they will need to be a productive and independent member of our community.

I am passionate about my new community and hope to be a part of the team that ensures our City grows to be lively, progressive, inclusive and economically viable into the foreseeable future.

I will work hard to

Listen, be honest          and transparent

Build public trust and confidence in our local council

Understand the planning and infrastructure approvals process

Support and grow local businesses

Promote tourism

Bringing Communities Together

The Colac Coffee Club and Book Club are the start of my ideas to unite the community, which I aim to expand to other parts of the shire. Bringing the community together is essential for fostering a sense of belonging and unity. By organising events, activities, and initiatives that cater to a diverse range of interests and demographics, we can create opportunities for residents to connect, interact, and build relationships with one another. Whether it's a coffee catch up, a local barbecue or a sports competition, these gatherings play a crucial role in strengthening the social fabric of our region. When individuals come together to celebrate their community and support one another, it not only enhances quality of life but also promotes a shared sense of pride and camaraderie among all members. Let me continue to work towards creating a more connected and inclusive community for all.

Your Independent Candidate

Running solo in the council election lets me focus on what the community needs without being swayed by any party. I can create policies that truly match what the people want and come up with new ideas for local problems.
